Will Jio's 5G Technology Aid in Cost Cutting?
Telecom service provider, Reliance Jio builds its 5G and other technologies, to reduce charges and dependence on other foreign vendors. The company has already replaced Nokia and oracle's 4G voice technology with its technology. This measure is the first of its kind, across the globe where a mobile phone company has build in-house technology to replace third-party vendor equipment. Alongside, Jio has also developed everything end-to-end around 5G technology.
Developing end-to-end 5G technology, Jio would be able to use it for security and surveillance using the drones, digitalization and industrial internet of things in the agriculture sector. However, broadband and voice would be the baseline of Jio's technology.
The company has obtained approval from the telecommunication department to carry out 5G trials based on its own technology. Additionally, Jio has also delivered a separate presentation to the department of telecommunication to give a clear view of its technology and the possible use case. The company claims that the technology would aid it commercially alongside, would provide flexibility to customize it according to India's specific requirements. Moreover, Jio had applied to conduct 5G trials with Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, and Samsung.
On the 5G technology rollout, the company states that its technology is fully automated and is more scalable than other vendors, relying on their cloud-native platform. Thus, the company would be self-sufficient in 5G. Furthermore, Reliance has designed its hardware for the 5G technology which could be developed in India post, 5G trials are successful.
